These two kitties are named Rover (the orange one) and Merkemer (the mostly white and tabby one, with the bow). They are each painted with acrylic paints on a 12″ x 16″ stretched canvas, completed in February and March of 2023. These are both for the same customer, who has commissioned several artworks from me over the years. Both of these artworks are available as art prints and other merch in my online print store at RebeccaWangArt.com

The first one is Rover, a longhaired orange tabby cat. I painted the background with a gradient of magenta, purple, violet, blue, and teal, with some splatters and brush strokes of the same colors plus yellow and hot pink scattered throughout. For his portrait, I mostly used orange, yellow, red, hot pink, and small touches of blue. Hie eyes are a vibrant light green, which really pop out of the orange, and are complemented by the cool tones in the background. There is some fluorescent paints in the actual painting, which do not scan very well, so the real life painting is much more vibrant than the scan. Most of my pet portraits feature animals facing forwards or slightly to the side, and it is a refreshing change to paint one that is facing sideways, not looking at the camera.

This is the second portrait in the set. His name is Merkemer, and he is a brown tabby and white shorthair cat. In the reference photo he was wearing a collar and a huge bow that is almost as big as his head, and the owner wanted to include both of those. His eyes were narrowed, and I kept that expression since it made him look sweet. I used an entire rainbow spectrum of colors for the background. Above I painted a rainbow confetti background, and on the ground a rainbow spectrum with lines. The owner wanted something different, so I thought it looked cool. The colors of the bow are taken directly from the reference photo, with the highlights and shadows more exaggerated than the photo so it appeared three dimensional and not flat.
