Completed on March 7, 2023, this is a colorful pet portrait painting of a cute Yorkshire terrier dog named Bella. The painting was done with acrylic paints on an 11″ x 14″ stretched canvas. The reference photo provided by the owner was very out of focus, so I painted her portrait in a more impressionistic style. The original painting is with the owner, but art prints and other merch are available for Yorkie lovers in my art print store: RebeccaWangArt.com

For Bella’s portrait, I chose the rainbow confetti background, which starts as a gradient of magenta, purple, violet, blue, teal, and green, and then yellow, blue, purple, and hot pink brush strokes are painted on top. I thought the mostly cool colors would be a nice contrast for the mostly warm colors of the dog. Yorkshire Terriers are tan and black, and I used red, orange, and yellow for the tan areas, and blue, purple, and hot pink for the black areas. The eyes were left their natural color of dark brown, and the nose was painted with blue tones. The inside of the ears are pink and magenta. Since there was not a lot of detail in the reference photo, I focused instead on the contrast between the light and dark areas of the fur, creating shadows and highlights in various colors to bring out the structure of her face.
