In this gallery are paintings of wild animals in the family Canidae: wolves, foxes, and wild dogs. The style of the paintings in this gallery are what I consider to be colorful realism. This realistic-colorful style features an animal drawn in realistic style but with bright colors instead of natural ones. The paintings are slightly stylized with bold brush strokes in a semi-impressionistic style, with abstract backgrounds.
The family Canidae has 37 species in two “tribes”: Canini (the dog-like canids) and Vulpini (the fox-like canids). Included in this family are several species that are well known, including the gray wolf, coyote, red fox, gray fox, arctic fox, African wild dog, jackal, and domestic dog. There are some extraordinary species in this family that are less well known, including the raccoon dog (tanuki), Ethiopian wolf, maned wolf, bat-eared fox, dhole, culpeo, darwin fox, bush dog, corsac, fennec, and island gray fox. I am planning on creating paintings of as many wild dog species as I can, which depends on if I can find great reference photos. Some of these species are so rare that finding photos of them is difficult. You can learn more about this unique and diverse family on the Wikipedia page.
