About the Ox:
The animal in this drawing is an Asian Water BUffalo (Bubalus bubalis). They are common throughout southeast Asian countries, and are used primarily for their milk and for plowing, and sometimes for meat. They are a domestic animal that is directly descended from the wild water buffalo in Asia. The term “ox” does not refer to any particular species of cattle, but instead refers to any cattle breed or species that is used for plowing or pulling carts. In Asia, the water buffalo is the primary animal used for this purpose, although other cattle breeds can be used.
