This unique pet portrait painting is of a tricolor shorthaired chihuahua dog named Bruce. His portrait was created with acrylic paints on an 8″ x 10″ stretched canvas, and was completed on June 16, 2021. This painting features vibrant psychedelic rainbow colors, with an abstract background in a style I call “rainbow confetti”! Bruce is black, tan and white, and his coloration was represented by mostly cool colors (blue and purple) with splashes of magenta, hot pink, and teal. The tan areas are a light yellow cream color, and the white areas have shows of light blue and purple.
Above is the comparison of the reference photo on the right to the painting on the left. The reference photo provided was perfect. I could see the details in the fur, it is clear and in focus, and the lighting was ideal. The pose is unique and very cute, and it was a great pleasure painting this portrait of Bruce the chihuahua. The photo reference was a composite of two images, which was already provided by the owner that way, since his ears were originally down in the original photo. So I used the reference photo as-is, except of course for the vibrant rainbow colors and the abstract background.
