This unique pet portrait is of two mixed breed dogs named Daisy (orange dog on the left) and Wayne (brindle dog on the right). The owner of the dogs wanted two paintings of them, so I created two almost identical paintings of the dogs. The paintings were made on two 12″ x 16″ stretched canvases. The first was completed May 28, 2021, and the second was completed June 9, 2021. The portrait features the two dogs in vibrant rainbow colors, laying on a wooden deck with a gradient background of purple, blue and green.
Above is the comparison of the reference photo (left) with the painting (right). The reference photo was used almost exactly as-is, with a few changes. The obvious change was the vibrant bright colors. The background is also different. I extended the width slightly so that Daisy’s ear and elbow would not be cut off. In doing so, the height had to be increased, so there is more background in the painting than the photo. The collars were removed. I kept the wooden deck they were laying on, since that provides a “ground” for them, and also makes the composition more complete. If the boards were removed, then there would be a lot of empty space below Wayne on the right side, so the boards fill in that space and also add a diagonal interest in the space. Below the deck is green “grass”, even though in the photo it is more wood, to continue the gradient from above.
Both the paintings are being displayed in their new home. If you want a colorful custom pet portrait of your own dog or cat, please visit my webpage for more information. This unique artwork is now available in my online print store as an art print and a few other products. This painting would make a great addition to the decor of a veterinary clinic, boarding facility, or other pet related office. It is available as a paper print with optional frame, stretched canvas print, as well as a print on metal, wood, or acrylic. It is also available as a throw pillow, fleece blanket, shower curtain, jigsaw puzzle, tote bag, greeting card, spiral notebook, and coffee mug.
