Featured Artist: Thornwolf

Periodically, I get the chance to highlight a featured artist in my blog. These are artists whose work I greatly admire, and I want the chance to give them some extra love on my website with a cool feature!

Today’s featured artist is Nicole Dornsife, aka: Thornwolf. I first discovered her artwork many years ago on Deviantart. I was really drawn to her beautiful fantasy characters, illustrations, and especially her wolf artwork. I particularly love the expressiveness in her animal’s faces, the amazing details in her work, and her use of color. And I also admire her for being a mostly traditional artist, which is becoming harder to find these days! Of particular interest is her Wildlife Treasures series, which features  beautiful illustrations of wildlife and natural wonders of a particular area, especially from the southwestern United States. She offers custom wildlife and scientific drawings and illustrations as commissioned artwork in a variety of styles and mediums, including both traditional and digital.

Logo Design

In addition to her amazing fantasy and wildlife themed artwork, she is also an amazing logo designer! She brings her unique style and attention to detail to these beautiful and sleek company logos and designs. Her work supports wildlife conservation, so not only do you get a cool logo for your small business, but your are helping to fund a good cause!  Her most notable logo was the design for the California Wolf Center, which is beautiful in its simplicity.

Below are some of my all time favorite artworks of hers.

Starry Eyes by Thornwolf

This combines two of my art loves: wolves and outer space! I love the bright colors and the glowing effect of the stars and galaxy, and of course the beautiful fantasy wolf!

A cool psychedelic leopard in bright rainbow colors! This is very reminiscent of my own work and I love it! Orange and blue work so well together, and I really love the inversion of the colors from one side of the face to the other: the left side is orange with blue/purple spots and the right is blue with orange and red spots.

Mexican Wolf by Thornwolf

This is one of her amazing wildlife illustrations, an art nouveau style with a wildlife twist! A gorgeous colorful Mexican wolf is flanked by prickly pear, manzanita, a crow, and an agave, with a small wolf family below. I really love the styles and colors in this piece.

This is probably my all time favorite piece! I love tigers, and was drawn to the piece because of that, but also to the glowing night scene, the contrast of the muted orange with the vibrant blues, and the eyes! I love realistic animal paintings with fantasy elements.
