Painted Turtle WIP 3
Continued work in progress on the Painted Turtle. I finished the rock, which looks like a trippy tie dye thing! I am pleased with the way it turned out. I will start work on the water and reflections, and finish the background. I have to extend the body just a bit so it does not look like he is floating above the rock. I have learned a lot about image processing scanning the progress. The more white is in an image, the more the colors will be off. Once I start filling up the background, the colors scan or photograph more true to life. The large area of white throws off the white balance and makes some colors darker than they should be, and others washed out. I have learned how to correct it somewhat in Paint Shop but it still does not look like the actual in person drawing.
Painted Turtle WIP 3
Made more progress on my Painted Turtle drawing. I finished the shell today, and so the turtle itself is complete. I have to add a background, and the rock and water as well as the reflection in the water. One thing I have discovered about the Prismacolor neon colored pencils is that they are -very- waxy, and do not blend well, especially the orange one. However, they colors are great. Hopefully, once I fill the rest of the paper with color, it will scan nicer.
Painted Turtle Work In Progress
Work in progress of my newest piece “Painted Turtle”. This is being drawn with Prismacolors Colored Pencils. I am using Neon Yellow, Neon Orange, Neon Pink, Non-Photo Blue, Ultramarine, and Neon Green. This is the first time I have worked with neon prismacolors, and they look great on the paper. Very bright and vivid color, and under fluorescent light they seem to glow! The problem is translating that vividness to a scanned or photographed digital image. It does not really translate exactly, especially the yellow and orange. The yellow is so bright in the drawing, but looks so, regular, in the scan. And the oranges seem to disappear for some reason. Hopefully once this is completely done, the scan will look better and I can adjust the white balance to look more true to life.
Painted Turtle Rough Sketch
I am starting on a new drawing today. It is a Painted Turtle, and here is the sketch. This will be drawn in psychedelic style. I haven’t decided the colors just yet. The reference pic can be found here.
